Big House Events worked on Granite, a large-scale outdoor production by the National Theatre of Scotland, designed by Becky Minto and staged in the quadrangle at Marischal College in Aberdeen.
Creating scenery at this scale for an outdoor public space required careful planning long before installation began. Elements were tested in the workshop to resolve movement, alignment and practical construction details, helping to ensure the build could come together efficiently and safely once on site.
With the production taking place outdoors and in front of a live audience, the scenery also needed to respond to the particular demands of its setting. Workshop testing and preparation helped identify and resolve potential issues before the installation reached Marischal College.
The project combined large-scale scenic construction, practical problem-solving and on-site installation to transform an historic outdoor setting into a performance space for the National Theatre of Scotland.
